Namuwongo Youth Football and Basketball League (NYFBL)

Background

In Namuwongo, youth do not have the opportunity to engage in organized recreational activities due to lack of resources, funds and a clean and safe environment to play – rather, youth adopt activities detrimental to the fabric of their communities and society at-large.

Many of the people who live in Namuwongo are adolescents with little opportunity for social activity or recreation. Although they are active, many of the places they play are surrounded by waste water and trash. There is no alternative and they youth continue to play in this environment that is detrimental to their health. Furthermore, many Namuwongo youth are neither in school nor employed.

GYPA has created an organized football (soccer) and basketball league for the youth in the Namuwongo. The innovative program promotes sports, environmental improvement, community sustainability and HIV/AIDS education. Your donation will build and sustain the football and basketball facilities, from the laying of the concrete to the planting of new grass on the football fields.

GYPA partnered with Kiwuliriza COU Boarding and Primary School, located in Namuwongo to build the football and basketball facitilies on the school grounds.

GYPA is working with local community leaders to manage the program. who with the help of the community will select coaches and organize schedules and matches. They will also organize and recruit the young people who will participate.
